Cycling Safety on Bikeways versus Roads

This article compares the relative safety of cycling on traffic-separated bike lanes and bike paths compared to cycling on roadways in mixed traffic. It finds overwhelming evidence that cycling on separate facilities is much safer, regardless of which index of safety is used.
