Improving Pedestrian Safety at Unsignalized Crossings

This spreadsheet provides a tool for practitioners to use to evaluate existing or proposed pedestrian crossing sites and identify recommended treatments to reduce pedestrian delay. The spreadsheet combines Worksheet 1 and Worksheet 2 (Appendix A, pages 69-70) of TCRP Report 112/NCHRP Report 562 (Improving Pedestrian Safety at Unsignalized Intersections) into an electronic format.
This spreadsheet should be used in conjunction with, and not independent of, Appendix A documentation.
The spreadsheet provides general recommendations on pedestrian crossing treatments to consider at unsignalized intersections; in all cases, engineering judgment should be used in selecting a specific treatment for installation. It does not apply to school crossings. In addition to the results provided by this spreadsheet, users should consider whether a pedestrian treatment could present an increased safety risk to pedestrians, such as where there is poor sight distance, complex geometrics, or nearby traffic signals.
The report authors developed the spreadsheet file and permit distribution; however, they do not provide regular updates for it.
