Measuring the Economic Impact of Nonmotorized Transportation

Jun 04, 2015

Communities across the United States are interested in understanding how transportation decisions and investments can result in economic benefits. This webinar will explore methods that can be used to evaluate the economic benefits of nonmotorized transportation investments based on a recent report from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Evaluating the Economic Benefits of Nonmotorized Transportation. The report documents a variety of economic benefits of these investments and provides a resources for communities who are interested in measuring the economic impact of future projects.

A presentation from Erica Simmons of the John A Volpe Transportation Systems Center will focus on the development of the report, followed by case study presentations from agencies that have assessed the local impacts of investing in bicycling and walking. Sean Quinn from New York City's Department of Transportation will discuss their efforts to document the economic benefits of sustainable streets, and Dr. Greg Lindsey from the University of Minnesota will share findings from a study on the economic impact of bike share users in Minneapolis.
