Pennsylvania: Pedestrian Planning and Design Guidelines

Source: Pennsylvania Department of Transportation

The plan-making process involved a comprehensive public outreach program that held workshops across the state, established a toll-free number and questionnaire, and included representatives from several stakeholder groups. The Pedestrian Planning and Design Guidelines act as a guide for PENNDOT and localities to make the current transportation system more accessible to pedestrians. The guide recognizes the importance of incorporating pedestrians into land use and planning policies and discusses ways to retro-fit existing developments to better serve pedestrians.
