Bicycling in Washington, DC: A Call to Action

Bicycling is part of the fastest growing trend in tourism - active vactioners - an important consideration in a city (Washington, D.C.) whose future economy relies on the continued growth of this industry. Bicycle tourism has a low-impact on the local environment's air quality and road capacity. By encouraging bicycling in the city, the vision of moving tourists off the Mall and into the city's commercial activity centers and historic neighborhoods becomes a reality. This report highlights needed improvements in six areas to increase bicycling in Washington, D.C. and offers three immediate action items for the District government.
