FHWA recently released Moving to a Complete Streets Design Model: A Report to Congress on Opportunities and Challenges, which recommends making Complete Streets the default road design model to help improve safety and access for all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, and transit riders of all ages and abilities. The report summarizes FHWA activities to improve practitioner understanding and accelerate implementation of Complete Streets policies and practices. It also cites five areas of opportunity, along with challenges FHWA will face, as it advances Complete Streets efforts. A press release from FHWA announcing the new report includes information on Complete Streets in relation to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and other Federal-aid funding opportunities. A new FHWA Complete Streets website hosts more details about their Complete Streets activities, including a new document that offers six scenarios to transform arterials using Complete Streets strategies.
