The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released a new edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), which defines the standards for installing and maintaining traffic control devices, including road markings, highway signs, and traffic signals on roadways open to public travel. This edition includes several updates aimed at enhancing safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other road users. The updates feature new tools to make intersections and streets safer, improved guidance on speed limit setting, and support for innovative community approaches like repurposing streets for pedestrian spaces while maintaining accessibility.
