Improving Safety for Pedestrians and Bicyclists Accessing Transit Guide

Oct 24, 2022

Transit use can increase the safety for all roadway users, but to do that effectively requires a connected network of multimodal facilities that are usable by and welcoming to everyone. Please join us for a webinar to learn more about the new FHWA/FTA Improving Safety for Pedestrians and Bicyclists Accessing Transit guide and to hear from State, local, regional, and transit agencies who are working together to improve pedestrian and bicyclist safety for those accessing transit.

Tamara Redmon from FHWA and Elissa Goughnour from VHB will discuss the details of the guide, including why this guide is needed and tips and best practices for agencies to use in their day-to-day work.

Glen Bolen from Oregon DOT will discuss how the State has assisted localities in effectively building out safe pedestrian and bicyclist connections to transit. They will also discuss statewide efforts using data analysis rooted in equity to identify areas of need for connections to transit.

Darcy Cleaver and Craig Toocheck from Pittsburgh Regional Transit and Paige Anderson from City of Pittsburgh will discuss Pittsburgh’s unique culture of walking and transit ridership and their joint efforts from planning through design to improve safety for those accessing transit.
