Global Benchmarking Webinar Series: Improving Pedestrian Safety on Urban Arterials
The report Improving Pedestrian Safety on Urban Arterials: Learning from Australasia documents findings from a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)-sponsored research team studying Australian and New Zealand approaches to reduce pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries on urban, signalized arterial roadways. This forthcoming four-part webinar series will share the results of the study, focusing on key research findings and recommendations (Part 1), the Movement and Place Framework (Part 2), integration of Road Safety Audit processes into new projects (Part 3); and network-level approaches for speed management (Part 4). Panelists from FHWA, PBIC, the USDOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center, and agency representatives from the US, New Zealand, and Australia will describe how these approaches in policy, planning, and design may be applied to US arterials roadways. The series will be delivered in four parts, as shown below.

This session will introduce the Movement and Place framework, which links policy making with the design and implementation of transportation projects to ensure that they reflect how roads and streets should operate in different contexts.
Panelists:
- Jonah Chiarenza, USDOT Volpe National Transportation Systems Center
Part 3: A Safe System Approach to Road Safety Audits
Monday, October 23, 2:30pm to 4:00pm Eastern Time

The third episode in the series will describe how Road Safety Audits (RSAs) can be applied with a Safe System lens to identify opportunities to eliminate fatal and serious injury crash potential.
Panelists:
- Rachel Carpenter, California Department of Transportation (Caltrans)
- Tamara Redmon, Federal Highway Administration
Part 4: Speed Management Policies and Practices
Tuesday, November 7, 2:30pm to 4:00pm Eastern Time
